Jenny & Matt Wedding, Braunton and Filliegh Village Hall

Well, what can I say about Jenny and Matt's wedding? It was very relaxed, thats for sure. There were laughs all day and plenty of them. I don't think I have ever met such a laid back couple at any wedding I've shot and it was all the better for it.

My coverage started with Jenny and her bridesmaids getting ready at the Imperial Hotel in Barnstaple. The room was a buzz of excitement when I arrived, as they were all getting ready for the short journey up the road to St Brannocks Church in Braunton. I waited until Jenny got into her stunning dress and took a few photos before I headed off to capture the guests and Matt arriving at the church.

As a surprise for Jenny, her bridesmaids had secretly arranged a well rehearsed flashmob style dance for her as she approached the entrance to the church, much to everyone's amusement. It certainly lightened the mood and put a smile on Jenny's face.

After the ceremony we all headed to Filliegh for the reception. Before the newlyweds could join their guests at the Village Hall, I whisked them off for a quick photo shoot at the Triumphal Arch overlooking Castle Hill. They were both in such a happy playful mood and I feel we got some great shots. Unfortunately, rain was coming so we headed back to the Village Hall so Jenny and Matt could meet and greet their guests. Matt is originally from Braunton, while Jenny is of Dutch origin and there were plenty of her friends and family from Holland in attendance.

Jenny and Matt had some brilliant detail ideas at the reception, such as the cake below. This has to be one of the best wedding cakes I've seen! Each guest table was themed in a country that the well travelled couple have visited together. Even the lovely fish and chip meal came in a travel box!

After our lovely meal, it was time for the speeches to begin. Jenny's brother started things off, followed by Matt who delivered one of the funniest (and longest!!) groom speeches I've ever heard. He had everyone in stitches, me included! Then the best man duo finished by typically telling funny, embarrassing stories about Matt.

Due to the rain, we decided to take the family formal group photos inside the marquee. Anyone who regularly reads my wedding blog knows I also take some 'alternative' group photos as well as the serious posed ones. I decide to show these in the blog posts as they are a lot more fun and entertaining to view, such as the ones below! Most couples actually prefer these types of group photos to the posed ones.

Jenny and Matt also arranged a photo area in the village hall, with an instant polaroid camera, guest book and some props. The idea was for guests to dress up and take an instant photo, stick it in a specially made guest book, along with a written message to the newlyweds. A great idea and keepsake for the couple and one I've seen a lot of this year at various weddings. Seeing an opportunity for some fun photos myself, I momentarily hijacked the area to take a few cheeky shots!

After Jenny and Matt finished their first dance, the floor quickly filled up with guests eager to dance the night away.

If only Heineken could arrange weddings! This was certainly one of my favourite weddings this year. So much fun and laughter all day and evening. I think the photos show what a brilliant day it was. I wish Jenny and Matt all the best in their married life together.
