Nuria & Richard Wedding, Marwood Hill Gardens, North Devon

Some weddings are organised two years in advance of the actual day, others considerably less. Richard and Nuria contacted me literally two weeks before their wedding date to be their photographer, which was a record in my books!

Even though the wedding was arranged at short notice, a lot of care and attention went into the planning, proving its possible to organise a successful wedding in a short amount of time.

The main reason they chose the Gardens as their venue, was due to Richard having very fond memories of the place working there as a student as part of his horticultural degree a number of years ago. It is also a beautiful setting for a wedding and quite unique as they don't normally host weddings there. However, they granted Richard permission to hold the ceremony and wedding breakfast there, whilst the evening reception was held at Marwood Village Hall, next door. The 20 acre gardens are located about 4 miles North of Barnstaple, set in a steep valley surrounded by rolling hills, quite a setting.

Marwood Gardens Wedding, North Devon Marwood Gardens Wedding, North Devon Marwood Gardens Wedding, North Devon The outdoor ceremony took place at the Spiral Seat (see below) at the top of the valley, surrounded by white birch trees, with views overlooking the gardens. We had lovely weather thankfully! The guests arrived and settled onto the seats awaiting Nuria's arrival. Nuria is originally from Spain, and about half the guests were from Spain, giving the day a real continental feel.

The ceremony was conducted by their next door neighbour, who happened to be a former registrar! Seeing Nuria walking up the hill towards Richard and their guests was an amazing sight and made me realise just how fortunate they were to get married outdoors surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Richard's best man gave a slideshow presentation on the life of Richard in photos which was both funny and poignant.

Then it was onto the evening reception at Marwood Village Hall, next door to the Gardens. Nuria and Richard had a well rehearsed dance routine for their first dance, very classy they looked too! This was swiftly followed by some brilliant traditional ceilidh dancing from the Oggle Band, who took the time to teach the guests all the dance routines, great stuff.

I had a blast shooting Nuria and Richards wedding, which was certainly different from many weddings I've covered. I wish them both all the happiness in their married life together.
