I love working at venues for the first time. Even after shooting weddings for over 12 years there are new ones popping up all the time. Glebe House is one such venue. Opened in 2021 Glebe House is an ideal venue for those want a relaxed county side wedding in beautiful surroundings. An added bonus is the onsite accommodation which is where I started my coverage of bride Beccy getting ready.

I did a lovely pre wed shoot with Beccy and James earlier in the year and I could see then what a fun loving couple they were. Their wedding day definitely had plenty of fun and laughter! The outdoor lawn games and the bouncy castle got plenty of use! What a day and I think the photos show what a fab day it was...

This was my first time shooting at Arches and I hope it's not the last. What a fantastic venue it is. The bridal suite upstairs, the ceremony room, the balcony, the decor and the sea view are all top notch. In fact I will have to update my favourite North Devon wedding venue page on my website now! Arches have put some of my photos on their website from this wedding, so happy days.
 

Of course, the couple Clare and Andy were also top notch! They were both very attentive and always making sure everything was okay for me, which was lovely and thoughtful of them and shows the type of people they are. I was also happy the weather was good for them on the day, which enabled us to get some lovely shots on the Combe Martin beach right below the venue. After the drinks reception we all headed a mile or so down the road the the village hall to continue the celebrations into the evening. What a day and I wish them both all the very best!

From the moment Tiff got in touch with me about shooting her wedding I felt the warmth and general loveliness from her and when I eventually met with her and Jerome I was judged correct. What an amazing couple, so thoughtful and kind hearted, they made me feel like I was an integral part of their day. Tiff is also from one of my favourite countries, Canada. a place I have visited a few times, including my own honeymoon.

I was so pleased the weather was fine for their big day and persuaded them to venture down and up the 250 steps down to Broadsands beach for their photos. What an amazing day.

Ashley and Steve chose the ever wonderful Ocean Kave in the hope that the sun would shine on their big day and boy did it ever. In fact the earth was so scorched due to the amount of sunny days. Another thing they wanted was a beautiful sunset to finish the day and again they got what they wished for. Lovely couple, lovely guests and a great day.

Definitely a highlight of my 2022 wedding season, Sinead and Martin's wedding was a monster day full of laughs and partying from the get go. Of course Sinead hiring singing waiters was a smart move for getting a party going, even though this wedding day was already in full swing when the waiters started. Sandy Cove was once again the setting for this amazing wedding day....

I always enjoy shooting weddings at Ash Barton. One of the best reasons for this is the unique nature of every wedding here. If you are a couple searching for a venue and you choose Ash Barton Estate as your venue you get to shape the wedding in so many different ways. Bring in your own catering, design and dress the multiple ceremony rooms how you want, stay onsite in the main manor house with tons of bedrooms, fancy bouncing on a trampoline, you can and lastly, there are no houses or public spaces within earshot, so make all the noise you want while celebrating your wedding day!

One of my weddings of 2022 for sure. Natalie and James's wedding had all the right ingredients for a perfect wedding day. Lovely couple, great guests, amazing venue, perfect weather, gorgeous beach for photos and everyone up for a fun day!

I count myself fortunate that in my job as a wedding photographer I get to work with so many lovely couples, like Pippa and Toby. From the moment we met (over zoom during lockdown!) I could sense the fun, warmth and kindness from them both in spades. They were so enthusiastic about their wedding day plans, I just knew it would be a day to remember.

For me the day started with a few photos at the cottages in Tawstock Court where Pippa and her bridesmaids were getting ready, before heading over to the Holy Trinity church in Barnstaple for the ceremony with a church full of guests eagerly awaiting Pippa's arrival. Then it was back to the wonderful Tawstock Court for the rest of the day and evening. As the photos show there was so much fun and laughter for me to capture. What a day! I'm so pleased I got to meet Pippa and Toby and got to share in their special day.

What a way to kick off my 2022 wedding season! Weddings have been a bit quiet these past couple of years for obvious reasons and it felt so good to be back shooting a wedding with zero restrictions.

The late March day started with a drive over to the wonderful town of Bude on the border of Cornwall for Alice's bridal prep at the An Mor Hotel. I even managed to catch Jamie leaving for the wedding venue as I arrived and got a few cheeky shots overlooking the beach.

Alice's bridal prep was a hive of activity and eventually I had to head off to the Old Barn to capture the guests arriving and a nervous Jamie awaiting his bride to be.

The rest of the day went as planned and everyone was in good spirits and luckily for this time of year there was lots of sunny weather!

Around 6 o'clock pretty much everyone made their way to the dodgems for a spin and bump around which was great fun as ever and a totally unique activity that only the Old Barn can provide.

After the first dance and some dancefloor it was time for me to leave. Alice and Jamie were a super nice couple and I had a blast shooting their special day. Alice and Jamie's wedding has set a high bar for the rest of my 2022 weddings, so I hope the rest are as fun to shoot as theirs!
 

January is normally a quiet month for weddings here in North Devon. However, I had the pleasure of capturing Kate and Matt's wedding at The Venue at Sandy Cove. The weather (for January) was amazing! Okay, it was pretty chilly, hence why there isn't too many outdoor photos. But for anyone planning a January wedding this was about as good as you can get!

Kate and Matt were such a down to earth couple so easy to work with. I wish them well in their married life together.

Ah, Maria and Sam's wedding! This was a highlight for a few reasons. Firstly, Beaconside is always a great venue to work at and is getting better every time time I go there. Of course, Maria and Sam were easy to work with and a pleasure to be around. Lastly, I have to mention the atmosphere of the wedding day. Maria's family are from Ireland and having a good time at an Irish wedding is par for the course! I come from Irish background and my wife is Irish too, so I know from experience what they can be like. In fact it brought back some happy memories from my own wedding back in Ireland.

This day started at Beaconside for the getting ready shots and on to a church in Bideford for the service. Once back at Beaconside the party began. Maria's father gave one of the longest speeches/jokes I've ever heard for a speech, brilliant. The food was lovely as always and the party games outside really got going, sack races and giant Jenga. I managed to prize the happy couple away for 10 minutes to get a few shots in the grounds then it was back for first dance followed by the dance floor mayhem.

What a day. So many laughs, so much good spirited fun. Gotta try and bottle this one!

I do love working at certain venues and there are a few great ones that I find myself at on a regular basis. However, I also like working at a venue for the first time. The latest new venue for me was Tawstock Court for Karis and Paul's wedding. Tawstock is huge. It used to be a school before the new owners converted it into a events venue. There is so much space and little nooks and crannies to explore. Saying that it's good for small and large weddings.

Great couple, great venue and a gorgeous summer wedding! Hope to work here again sometime soon.

What can I say about Beth and Frank's wedding at The Old Barn? Such a lovely genuine couple and a day full of laughs and emotions. Just what a wedding should be in my opinion. They were married at the beautiful Abbotsham Church, which was the first time I shot a wedding there. 

Then on to the Barn for the wedding breakfast and dodgems! One of the highlights for me was Beth's first dance with her father, a truly emotional moment as I could see the close connection they had throughout the day. A great way to end a top day!

One of the first weddings of the year for me and what a way to start! From the moment I arrived for the girls preparations there was so much fun and laughter to capture I didn't know where to point my camera.

I love working at Ash Barton as the weddings always have a real do-it-yourself vibe which is kind of true as there are no staff around to set things up, it's all done by the couple and there gamily and friends.

At the tail end of last year I found myself back at one of my favourite local venues, Hallsannery House for Sophie and Jon's special day. It never fails to disappoint as a venue which is good as I work there a few times every year!

Although the weather was perhaps a bit of a letdown for the newlyweds, the wedding day more than made up for it! Sophie and Jon are both musicians and play in a band, so the wedding had a bit of a music theme, although they resisted the temptation to get up and play later that evening even though the band who played were friends of theirs. 

One of the highlights was the speeches which were done on the staircase whilst the guests were packed in the main hall. Some very funny moments. This was one of my last weddings of 2018 and one of my favourites of the year.

I thought I'd post some photos from one of my favourite weddings of 2018. Might even be one of the best I've ever shot to be honest. Rozie and Mike were married at Northam church and had the reception at her Grans house nearby. I don't think I've ever shot a more expressive, colourful and joyful bride as Rozie.
From the moment I arrived at her bridal prep until I left later that night Rozie was full of the joys! Mike was quite a character too. One of the highlights of a fun filled day was when the wedding breakfast arrived, delivered by a local pizza company!

There are some amazing wedding venues in North Devon. I know this as I've shot weddings at pretty much all of them! However, every year I shoot a few weddings at farms in the County and these are in their own way just as magical and certainly unique events. Lauren and Matt had their wedding at Lauren's brother's farm in Dolton.

When I arrived Lauren was busy getting ready along with her bridesmaids and Matt was outside in a nearby field (the scene of the ceremony) greeting their family and friends arrival.

Luckily the weather held out for the ceremony even though there were a few black clouds looming overhead. After the ceremony I took the newlyweds to a nearby woods for their bride and groom photos. This is one of the reasons I enjoy farm weddings, as the landscape is new to me and there are some hidden gems, location wise for photos. In this case the wooded area was just a stunningly beautiful backdrop.

After heading back to their guests Lauren and Matt took their seats in the marquee for the meal and speeches. The rest of the afternoon was spent mingling with the guests and even a few games of table football!

I really enjoyed shooting this wedding and I wish Lauren and Matt all the best for the future.

I would definitely include this as one of the 'special' weddings I shot in 2018. Not only were Roz and Ruth one of the nicest down to earth couples you could meet, but everything just felt right about the day. The guests were friendly and really up for a good time. The weather although a bit chilly (it was October!) was fine and dry and offered up a nice sunset that evening. The venue, Ocean Kave, was as always, the perfect place to host a wedding day!

I had a second shooter with me on the day and I'm glad I did as there was so much to capture. Both Roz and Ruth were really relaxed and chilled when we arrived for the bridal preparations. And thats the way things stayed all day, no stress or worries, just fun and laughter, just what a wedding should be!

After a beautiful ceremony in the Kave everyone moved over to the Sunset Rooms for the meal and speeches. Ruth's best man's speech was good fun as he used a slideshow to humiliate the happy couple with some silly photos.

After the meal I took Roz and Ruth to nearby Westward Ho! beach for some photos and we were met with an amazingly detailed and colourful sky for the photos, always a bonus. Then we drove back just in time for the couple to take to the floor for the first dance, quickly followed by the guests joining them for some more dancing and that was how my day ended. What a great day. I wish all weddings were this much fun!
