Top 10 Wedding Venues in North Devon
North Devon really does have some spectacular venues for weddings. Whether you are looking for romance by the sea or a beautiful countryside setting for your special day, North Devon has it all.
Here is a list (in no particular order) of ten of the best wedding venues North Devon has to offer and some photos from weddings I've shot at these venues. All of these stunning venues have one thing in common, they will look good for your wedding photos! Is your wedding venue on this list?
Ocean Kave is certainly a unique venue to host a wedding, set amidst 60 acres of private coastal grounds with incredible views of The Atlantic Ocean and Lundy Island. One of its many highlights is the stunning coastal views you get from the Kave ceremony room, where you can watch the sun setting at the end of your romantic day! Since opening its doors in 2013 Ocean Kave has become one of the premier wedding venues in Devon and is a multiple winner of the The Wedding Industry Awards for the Best Countryside Wedding Venue in the South West.
They specialise in Elopement Weddings and Small Intimate weddings for up to 30 people. Personally, I love shooting here as there are so many spectacular photo opportunities within the grounds and you are a couple of minutes away from Westward Ho! beach for those all important bride and groom photos.
The Venue at Sandy Cove - Combe Martin
I've shot quite a few weddings at Sandy Cove over the years, but this year has seen a few changes to make an already great venue into a top of the range one! There's the brand new modern 'Venue' building, a great place to hold your reception, meal and evening do, overlooking the cliff top. To top it off there is the unique new four meter platform extending far out over the cliff edge to the sweeping views below, there's nothing quite like it in the South West. The view here is the perfect backdrop for bride and groom photos.
If you need accommodation for you and your guests you can stay at the on site hotel, many rooms have those amazing sea views. The Venue at Sandy Cove certainly has that 'wow' factor and I love shooting weddings here!
Hallsannery is an elegant manor house set in beautiful surroundings, located about 1 mile from the centre of Bideford. It has a beautiful sweeping lawn at the side of the house, offering views over the Torridge estuary, perfect for your photos!
Many of their large rooms are licensed to hold an indoor wedding ceremony, or if you want to have your ceremony outdoors you can, under the grand stone Portico. One of the highlights of the venue in my opinion is the stunning swirling staircase, which is the house's centre piece. There are so many nice spots for photos at Hallsannery, especially the giant bamboo plants. I've shot weddings here in all kinds of weathers and enjoyed every one.
If you want to get married by the sea, you can't get much closer than the Pier House! Overlooking Westward Ho! beach, the Pier House is an ideal venue for a beach wedding. Although you can't actually get married on the beach, you are so close, you can almost hear the crashing waves (if the tide is in) from inside the main ceremony room!
After the ceremony, you can bask in glorious sunshine on their stylish decked sun terrace for a quick breather. One of the many reasons I enjoy shooting here is the delicious food! The Pier House is also a restaurant and bistro, so the food is always to high standard. As for photo opportunities, there is the beach or the nearby coastal path. I've shot quite a few times at the Pier House and always look forward weddings there.
Another North Devon wedding venue by the sea, Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe is a stunning setting for a wedding. One of the highlights of this place is the long tunnel built into the rock that leads you into the main ceremony area. The modern building built into the rocks overlooking the sea and it's two private beaches make Tunnels a very popular venue for weddings.
During the summer wedding season, they often get fully booked and hold up to 7 weddings per week! I've really enjoyed shooting weddings here and there is no shortage of excellent photo opportunities with some truly stunning scenery!
Another favourite venue of mine is the Old Barn which is a 20 minute drive from Bideford. The stunning 17th century barn is a lovely location for a reception and the beautiful grapevined conservatory is perfect for ceremonies. The Old Barn is suitable for those couples looking for a DIY venue where they can really stamp their own mark on the day.
One of the unique things about the Old Barn is the option for couples and their guests to enjoy some of the theme park attractions on their wedding day, such as the bouncing pillows or the dodgems. From a photography perspective I love shooting in these parts as they offer something different and unique to wedding photos!
Tawstock Court is one of the newer venues to pop up in North Devon when it opened back in 2019. The spectacular Grade II listed manor house is the centrepiece of this amazing wedding venue, although there is so much to offer here. Tawstock Court offers exclusive use for weddings with onsite accommodation two bars, courtyard, honeymoon suite and stunning outdoor scenery for photos.
I was lucky to shoot here back in 2019 and last year and it really is a photogenic venue, offering multiple areas for those all important bride and groom photos. I also have quite a few booked here in the next few years and I can't wait to come back and shoot at Tawstock!
If you are looking for a complete DIY wedding venue then Ashbarton Estate may be what you are looking for. Over the years there has been quite a bit of refurbishment making subtle changes to an already stunning venue. I particularly like the stone chapel as a ceremony space, although you can also get wed outdoors if you wish.
I have shot here many times over the years and every wedding here feels totally different, due to the DIY aspect to every wedding that takes place here. The grounds are also stunning at Ashbarton offering many excellent photo opportunities. There are also trampolines!!
Country Ways is set deep into the North Devon countryside and you really do feel you are away from civilisation when you're here. They even have their own village of cottages as they say on the website!
Country Ways is a great venue if you are looking for country-chic and a real outdoor summer feel to your day. The outdoor spaces are pretty stunning too.
Beaconside house is one of those wedding venues I have worked at over the years that I have seen a real transformation of the venue and facilities. The first wedding I shot here had the reception in a nice marquee and a few years later they now have one of the most stunning reception venues in the whole of Devon.
There is also plenty of quality onsite accommodation including glamping! Beaconside has lots of flexible options to really stamp your own theming into your wedding day.
