Sophie & Andy wedding at Hallsannery

I've often heard people refer to North Devon as a 'small world', due to the amount of perspective wedding couples I meet who recognise brides and grooms from photos and slideshows of previous weddings I've shot. This was actually the case for me when I met Sophie and Andy for their wedding consultation, albeit for slightly different reasons. Turns out they both currently work for the same company I worked for in London before I made the move to North Devon! Strange coincidence, fate? Who knows, but I was certainly glad I met them as theirs was one of the most enjoyable weddings of the season so far.

Sophie actually has a connection with North Devon, which is why they chose to get married in Littleham Church and then onto the fabolous Hallsannery, just outside Bideford. I met up with Sophie at her mother's house in Bideford for the bridal preparations. Sophie was very calm and relaxed, maybe a bit too relaxed, as we left for the church quite late! Sophie travelled to the church in style in a beautiful vintage car. I made sure I left a few minutes ahead of Sophie to make sure I got to the church first!

Meanwhile, my second shooter for the day Mike was at Hallsannery to capture groom Andy getting ready. We all eventually met up at the church in the small village of Littleham, where I met with a slightly nervous Andy who was beginning to wonder where his bride had got to!

After a lovely ceremony, I took the newly weds for a brief photo session in a nearby field as the weather was getting rather dark and cloudy, which would ultimately scupper our chances of a few photos on Westward Ho! beach later on that day. When we arrived at Hallsannnery all the guests had made their way there already and greeted the newlyweds with a drinks reception and a few more group photos in the beautiful grounds.

Then it was time for everyone to head inside to the marquee for the wedding breakfast and speeches. By now the rain had made an unwelcome appearance, so we shot a few photos on the centrepiece stairway in the main house, although I still suggested we head outside in the rain (with a trusty brolly) for a few more photos! Sophie and Andy chose the brilliant Sonic Fusion for the evening's music and had their first dance, closely followed by the guests giving it some welly on the dance floor!

What a great wedding day! Sophie and Andy are a real down to earth couple and working with them on the day was a real pleasure.

Hi Marc,

Thank you for this wonderful blog - we had such an amazing wedding day, and we absolutely love the way you have captured it. We are so very pleased with the way our photos tell a lovely story, and will always remind us of the details and the quirks of our special day, as wells as a few masterpieces to adorn our walls for ever more!

We were very happy to trust you from our first meeting - after we'd got all the 'who do we know that you also know' out of the way, we were off to a flying start.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Mike, the second shooter. We were unsure about having a second shooter to begin with, but I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone, as we really like the difference in photography styles which we feel compliment each other beautifully in our albums, and realise now it would have been silly to miss either of the bride or groom's preparations! A big thank you also for Mike's expert arrangement of my [large] dress for the photos and having both of you made the group shot organisation very smooth!

We would not hesitate to recommend you to other couples for the big day - thank you very much!
