Sarah & Lee Wedding at Cedars Inn, Barnstaple
I originally met Sarah and Lee at a wedding fair and if I remember rightly, Lee and I somehow got into a lengthy conversation about football! Not very professional when trying to impress a bride to book me for a wedding I know! Much to my surprise and delight, Sarah and Lee booked me regardless. I was very pleased they did because I felt we got on very well when we met and they were just the type of couple I enjoy 'working' with on a wedding day.
A few months later after shooting a really laid back and enjoyable engagement session with them at Rock Park in Barnstaple, I was really looking forward to shooting their wedding day later in the year and it certainly didn't disappoint.
I started my coverage in Braunton where Sarah was getting ready along with her son and Mum. True to form, Sarah was really chilled, but just a tiny bit nervous about the day ahead. We also ventured outside to get a few shots of Sarah with her amazing vintage Rolls Royce she had for the day.
I wished Sarah well and drove the short distance to Pilton Church in Barnstaple. Lee and his brother soon turned up in full traditional scottish attire, as did all the groomsmen. Although Lee is a Londoner, his family has Scottish heritage.
Sarah eventually turned up in that amazing vintage Rolls with her Dad and even had time to greet a couple of elderly ladies who lived in the Church cottages who took in interest as she passed them by. By now, Lee was anxiously waiting in the church for Sarah's arrival.
After a beautiful ceremony, we all headed across Barnstaple to The Cedars for the evening festivities. We even found some time for a few more gratuitous vintage car shots (and why not!) before we headed inside for the wedding breakfast. Lee even got the chance to sit in the drivers seat, although being a vintage car, it was a bit of a squeeze getting in!
Sarah had a lovely surprise for Lee as they cut into their wedding cake. The sponge was in the colours of his favourite football team West Ham, a nice touch. Sarah had specifically asked me to get a shot of all their guests, so to get a good vantage point, I clamoured onto the roof and got a shot of everyone, though a few of the guests thought I was a bit mad being up there!
Thankfully, Sarah and Lee were blessed with a lovely sunny day and we took full advantage by going outside to get a few bride and groom photos and a full length shot of Sarah in her amazing dress.
After their first dance, Sarah, Lee and their guests got on the dance floor for some serious line dancing! After shooting for another half an hour or so, I left them to dance the night away.
I really enjoyed being part of Sarah and Lee's wedding day, they were so lovely to work with and made an effort to make me feel like a guest, which I really appreciated. A definite highlight of my 2014 wedding season! They are genuinely a lovely couple and I wish them all the best in their married life together.
