Amy & Sean Wedding, Saunton Sands Hotel

I must admit, I was quite excited to finally shoot a wedding at Saunton Sands Hotel. My brother got married there years ago and I'd always wanted to shoot a wedding there. After so many disappointing wet and windy Saturdays this wedding season, I was delighted to see a gorgeous sunny day when I arrived at the hotel that morning to capture both Amy and Sean's preparations. 

Saunton Sands Hotel Wedding Saunton Sands Hotel Wedding When I arrived at Amy's hotel room she was at the early stages of her preparations, so I headed over to Sean's room and captured 10-15 minutes of him getting ready with his his three best men, Mike , Damian and Stephen. The boys were in high spirits, which pretty much carried through until I left about 10 hours later!

The girls were also in high spirits, although Amy was a little nervous, understandably. Special mention must go to Amy who I thought looked simply stunning in her dress! I was looking forward to taking Amy and Sean down to the beach for some photos later in the day to really show off that dress.

Looking back, I have to say it was an extremely hot day and the ceremony room was sweltering. At one stage during the vows I thought Sean was going to pass out! Thankfully he didn't and the ceremony went along smoothly.

Saunton Sands Hotel Wedding Soon it was time to go back inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches. As was a reoccurring theme throughout the day, the speeches were very funny and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves very much (just as a wedding should be!).

The guests on the beach were trying to write a message to the happy couple in giant letters in the sand 'Congratulations Amy and Sean' The problem was, the tide was coming in fast and by the time the last couple of letters of 'congratulations' were written the tide would cover it up! Nice thought though. 

When I met with Amy and Sean back in February at the hotel, we all decided to go onto the beach for their bride and groom photos, rain or shine and luckily the sun was shining. It was late afternoon and there were quite a few people on the beach, so I took them to a couple of quiet spots for their shoot.

It was such a laugh for me capturing all the funny dances and poses. Sean's mate Andy performed an acoustic set of sing along anthems which kept things going along nicely. I even got my first and only thank you mention during a wedding from guitarist Andy, for capturing Amy and Sean's day. Much to my embarrassment, the crowd gathered around me chanting my name! I just kept my red face hidden behind the camera and took photos of them chanting. Thanks anyway Andy, it was a nice touch!

Then it was back inside for more festivities. I literally had to drag myself away to go home, I was enjoying myself so much! I was really worn out from a long day, so reluctantly said my goodbyes and left. 

Every wedding season, you get one or two weddings where you really feel a part of the couples day, as if you were a guest, even though you barely knew them before. This was one of those days. Everything went well, the weather, the amazing couple, the friendly guests, the venue, all made this one of my favourite weddings of 2014, so far. I wish Amy and Sean every happiness in their married life together.

Amy emailed me after receiving the photos to say they were coming down to Croyde for a festival a few weeks later and could we please do the wedding all over again, it was that kind of day!
