Nicola & Ian wedding - High Bullen Country Hotel

If I remember rightly, Nicola and Ian were the first couple to book me this year back in early January. When Ian told me they were getting married at High Bullen Country Hotel in Umberleigh I was really pleased as I had captured a wedding there last year and it is one of my favourite venues.

The day started with Nicola's bridal prep at her mum's house in Torrington. While I was there, my assistant Bev was around the corner at their house where she was capturing Ian and best man Paul getting ready.

Nicola was incredibly laid back and relaxed and even had time to have a sip of tea from her mother's best china! Nicola's bridesmaids Jenny, Amy and Emma were also getting ready there, doing a fine job on each other's hair and also all in a relaxed mood. Soon it was time to head off to High Bullen, so Bev and I jumped into my car and headed over there. Unfortunately the weather wasn't particularly kind on this day and was rather wet and windy. Luckily the ceremony was indoors. When we arrived all the guests were there along with Ian and Paul eagerly awaiting Nicola's grand entrance.

After the ceremony, we took a chance with a break in the weather and ventured outside onto the fine High Bullen grounds to take some bride and groom portraits. Ian and Nicola were a couple of troopers and didn't mind the slight drizzle of rain and made the most of the drab weather by creating some fab photos with a couple of large white umbrellas! When we finished and went back inside all the guests were waiting to greet them with confetti.

I then suggested we go and take a few more photos in the Hotel on the stunning central staircase, a gorgeous feature of the Hotel. Soon after, it was time for the meal and speeches. Nicola's mum read out a poem she wrote which was a lovely touch.

The reception was held at Langtree Village Hall later in the evening and one of the highlights was Nicola and her mum playing in The Bideford Band. It was certainly the first time I have photographed a bride puffing her cheeks playing a trumpet!

What a great wedding day. Nicola and Ian are such a lovely, friendly, down to earth couple. The whole day was a joy to capture, with lots of laughs throughout the day. Just what a wedding should be.
