Kerry & Dave wedding at Buckland House

Kerry and Dave's wedding day, back in August last year, involved quite a few firsts for me and my wedding photography business. Firstly they had their pre wedding shoot literally the day before the wedding at Buckland House where apart from a few portrait shots they wanted me to capture all the many wedding details they prepared around the venue. Secondly, I had never actually shot a wedding at Buckland House before, which sits beautifully in the mid Devon countryside in a small village called Buckland Filliegh. Thirdly, due to an unexpected arrival, they included a Christening for their newborn son on the wedding day at the adjacent church straight after their ceremony  And lastly, I started the photography coverage on the day with some shots of groom Dave and his mates on Westward Ho! beach going for a surf!

So a day of firsts then, which may have been why I particularly enjoyed shooting this wedding. Buckland House gives complete exclusivity of it's beautiful extensive grounds and large house for a whole week, which meant the main wedding party arrived a few days before and stayed on for a few more days after the wedding day, a great idea. Its a real do-it-yourself venue, which especially appealed to Kerry and Dave. Surprisingly, there are no Buckland House staff on site on the wedding day, although the owners live nearby, they leave you to get on with it yourself (which I mean in a good way of course!), so you can mold the whole day as you like it. Pretty much everything is organised and arranged by the couple and their guests, including dressing the venue etc, which gives each and every wedding here the couples own unique touch. The only non wedding party people there were myself and the catering/bar company staff Kerry and Dave hired.

Kerry and Dave were fortunate to have such good weather on the two days I was shooting and Buckland House and the surrounding grounds looked stunning basking in the glorious sunshine.

After shooting a few frames of the boys on the beach, I took the 40 minute drive to Buckland House where I found Kerry getting ready. I have to say Kerry, Dave and their wedding party did such a good job making the place look great. 

After the ceremony we all headed a few hundred yards to the nearby church for the christening before heading back to the venue for the wedding breakfast, followed by the dancing in the main house. The day ended with a firework display set to music, brilliant!
