Faye & Darren Wedding, Northam Church & Royal North Devon Golf Club

The wedding blogs are coming thick and fast right now. I'm still trying to catch up from some of the weddings I shot in 2014, so in the coming weeks I'll be posting a few from 2014 until the weddings start again for me in February.

I met up with Faye and her bridesmaids at her parents house in East The Water, where I found a very relaxed and chilled bride to be. 

Faye and Darren contacted me to shoot their wedding through a recommendation from the relative of a previous wedding I'd shot. When we met to discuss the wedding, I found them both to be really laid back, but also very excited about their big day. 

I love the photo below (2nd down) where her Dad sees her in her dress for the first time, just one of those magical moments a wedding day brings.

I left Faye and her bridesmaids to continue getting ready and headed down the road to Northam Church. Darren and his best man arrived soon after in a gorgeous sports car, which would also be used to carry the newly weds to the reception at the Royal Golf Club down the road in Westward Ho!

This was the first time I had shot in Northam Church and I have to say it was one of the nicest to shoot in, lots of room to manoeuvre and opportunities to get shots from many different angles, which is not always possible in some churches. Faye soon arrived with her Dad in an old vintage car and headed straight into the packed church for the ceremony to begin.

Faye and Darren walked down the aisle and outside as a married couple and were eagerly congratulated by all the guests outside the church. The guests then made their way to the Golf Club, while Faye and Darren stayed behind for a quick photo with the car.

Darren then got behind the wheel and drove them down the hill to the reception in style. Thankfully the weather was nice and dry, as I had planned ahead to take them out to the beach at Westward Ho! a couple of hours later at sunset for some photos.

This was the first time I'd been into the Royal North Devon Golf Club and I have to say it was a little gem of a place. I have to give a special mention to the food, which was delicious, in fact I made a mental note to come back for a Sunday roast sometime! Faye and Darren very generously sat me at a table with some of their guests for the wedding breakfast which was nice. As soon as I finished my dessert, it was back to work for covering photos of the speeches.

During the speeches, Faye's Dad told everyone the true story of how Faye was due to be on a flight from Los Angeles on 9/11, but didn't make the flight, which turns out was sadly involved in the tragic events of that day, and how thankful he was that she is here today because of it. The speeches ended on a high note though, with the happy couple being awarded t-shirts to commemorate their marriage!

As I mentioned earlier, the intention was to take Faye and Darren onto the beach at Westward Ho!, which was only a few hundred feet from the reception, but alas, the tide was fully in!! Still, we managed to get some beautiful shots on the pebble ridge just as the sun was setting.

Then we headed back to the reception for Faye and Darren's first dance, closely followed by live music from the brilliant Sonic Fusion. The dance floor soon filled up, which gave me a nice opportunity to get some shots of the guests enjoying themselves, including the savvy mother and baby wearing protective headphones, very cool!

Due to the late ceremony start, it wasn't the longest wedding day I've covered, but it was certainly one of the most fun-packed and enjoyable weddings I shot in 2014 and thanks to Faye and Darren for putting on a memorable day. All the best guys.
