Frances & Mark Wedding, Ocean Kave, Westward Ho!
I've known Frances for a few years now, ever since she became my son's babysitter and it was lovely to hear when she and fiancé Mark announced they were engaged! I was also delighted when she asked me to photograph their wedding.
They chose the wonderful wedding venue of Ocean Kave for their special day and my coverage kicked off at Frances's bridal preparations at one of the onsite cottages. Bridesmaids, Laura, Phoebe, Nadana and mum Kate where there when I arrived busing themselves with hair and makeup, along with Frances who was her usual calm and relaxed self.
Soon, it was time for the short hop to the Kave where Mark was anxiously waiting in full military attire with best man Chris. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't being kind. It was very wet and windy when Frances arrived at the Kave with Dad Nigel, but she looked stunning nonetheless.
After a beautiful ceremony in front of their family and friends the newlyweds emerged from the Kave to find the weather had brightened up and was dry at last! The sun even made a welcome appearance so, grabbing our chance while we could, I suggested we do some bride and groom photos. Good job we did, as the rain and wind soon came back with a vengeance and stayed that way for the rest of the day.
Then it was time for the wedding breakfast at the Kave's Sunset Rooms. The room looked amazing and was beautifully laid out and decorated. After a super tasty meal we settled in for some heartfelt and very funny speeches from Mark, France's Dad Nigel and best man Chris.
After the speeches had finished everyone just kicked back, relaxed and partied for the remainder of the day. Soon, more evening guests arrived and the dancing and celebrations continued. As I was there as the official photographer and a guest, Frances suggested I put the camera down and enjoy the evening celebrations like everyone else. However, I made sure I captured the first dance and a (unfortunately rarely seen these days) bouquet toss, before I could finally sit back and forget I wasn't there to do a job anymore!
There was however, one last thing to do. As is customary with my couples on their wedding day, I always suggest we go outside at sunset to get some 'wow' shots. The only problem was there was no sunset! Frances and Mark were game for going outside anyway, so we grabbed an umbrella and took a few lovely photos in the rain!
What a day! It was truly an honour to capture Frances and Mark's wedding. As I previously mentioned, I've known them for a few years and they were one of the first couples I did an engagement shoot with after I'd moved to North Devon from London. Even back then, I could see just how much they were in love and how they made a genuinely lovely couple. I wish them all the very best in their married life together!
